On this day #1

On November 7, 2004, U.S. forces stormed Fallujah, Iraq, a city that had become an insurgent stronghold. On the same day, Iraq's interim government called for a 60-day state of emergency.
This photo isn't from that day. It shows Fallujah in 1914, long before the city's name became familiar in American homes. These are the same streets, from a much quieter time.
For many families in this country, Fallujah stopped being a far-off name on a map. It became the place where a son or daughter, a husband or wife, was serving. The days that followed were hard for the people who were there, and many of them still carry those memories.
Veterans Day is only a few days away. It's a good time to remember the people behind the history, and the families at home who waited for them.
