History fact #1

History fact #1

In late 1932, at least 20,000 emus came out of central Australia looking for water. They found the wheat districts of Western Australia and started eating the farmers' crops. Many of those farms belonged to men who had been given land after the First World War. For them, a flock of six-foot birds on long legs eating the harvest was not a small worry. Things got so bad that the army was called in. The emus kept the upper hand, and the episode is still remembered as the Great Emu War. In the end, a bounty did more to protect the crops than the soldiers did. Do you have a story of wildlife that refused to leave your garden or farm?
